In this role, you will carry out a variety of intra-oral procedures within the scope of dental hygiene practice. This includes conducting oral health exams, taking intraoral photos, and applying fluoride varnish and Silver Diamine Fluoride. You will be responsible for documenting all patient care phases in our software to ensure data accuracy and timeliness for reporting purposes.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform intra-oral duties as required by the dental hygiene scope of practice.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records for all care phases.
- Collaborate with team members and other healthcare professionals to facilitate comprehensive dental care.
- Engage with individuals, families, and the dental community to enhance access to dental services.
- Manage dental program operations, including equipment operation, instrument maintenance, inventory monitoring, scheduling, and procedural documentation.
- Conduct educational oral health presentations for school-aged children.
- Serve a diverse clientele, including children and families from various backgrounds, with minimal supervision.
- Perform additional duties as necessary.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Diploma or degree from an accredited Dental Hygiene program.
- Active registration with the provincial Dental Hygienists’ College.
- At least three years of clinical experience, with public health and pediatric experience preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite; familiarity with Curve dental software is beneficial.
- Local anesthetic qualifications and Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) skills are advantageous.
- Understanding of insurance coverage and government support mechanisms.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks independently.
- Excellent communication skills; multilingual abilities are a plus.
- Must obtain BLS-level CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
- Successful completion of a vulnerable sector criminal record clearance and a child welfare intervention check.
- Familiarity with UNDRIP and the TRC’s 94 Calls to Action is valued.
Working Environment
- Locations include Dental Health Bus and various preschools and daycares throughout the city.
- Casual hours vary based on the needs of the host sites.
- Physical duties include bending, reaching, kneeling, and occasionally carrying objects up to 50 lbs.
- Work may involve exposure to all weather conditions.
